What is Four Peaks Solitaire?
Four Peaks Solitaire is a larger, supersized variation of the classic TriPeaks Solitaire card game. It takes the same fast-paced, sequential card-clearing mechanics where you match cards exactly one rank higher or lower, but expands the layout to four overlapping peaks instead of three. With a larger board, playing Four Peaks Solitaire online for free (or pyramid solitaire four peaks) requires more foresight and strategic planning. The game remains completely independent of suits and colours, making it highly dynamic and engaging. It is an excellent free solitaire game option for players looking for a slightly more complex layout and higher score potential directly in their browser.

How to Play Four Peaks Solitaire
If you enjoy four card patience variations, learning the four peaks solitaire rules is quick and simple. If you want to know how to play four peaks solitaire games, the rules are identical to TriPeaks, meaning if you know one, you can play both. The primary goal is to clear all four card pyramids from the board and move them into the waste pile before you run out of cards in your stock pile.
Understanding the Playing Area
The board layout of Four Peaks Solitaire features four connected, overlapping pyramids. As shown in the layout screenshot, the bottom-most row of cards starts face-up, while the cards resting in the overlapping layers above remain face-down. With 36 cards on the tableau, this creates a wider playing field than the standard three-peak variation.
To clear the layout efficiently, familiarise yourself with the zones on the board:
- The Four Peaks: The main area where cards are dealt into four overlapping pyramids. The bottom row consists of face-up cards, while the cards above them remain face-down until uncovered.
- The Stock Pile: The reserve deck at the bottom left. If you find yourself with no available matches on the peaks, click here to draw a new card.
- The Waste Pile: Next to the stock, this is where you build your matches. The top card is face-up and serves as the value you must match.
Making Matches & Card Flow
Clearing the board relies on making sequential matches. As shown in the move illustration, you can select any uncovered face-up card from the pyramids and transfer it to the waste pile if its value is exactly one rank higher or lower than the waste pile’s top card.
Matching cards in Four Peaks is purely numerical and ignores traditional card constraints:
- Sequential Clearance: You can select any face-up card from the peaks and move it to the waste pile if its value is exactly one rank higher or one rank lower than the card on top of the waste pile.
- Ignored Suits and Colours: A 9 of Clubs can be matched with a 10 of Diamonds or an 8 of Hearts. Only the rank matters.
- Continuous Loop (Wrapping Around): Ace and King are connected. You can place an Ace on a King, or a King on an Ace. This allows you to loop sequences indefinitely. For example: Jack → Queen → King → Ace → King → Queen.
Drawing from the Stock
When you can no longer find any valid matches on the pyramids, click the stock pile to draw. As shown in the stock draw illustration, clicking the stock deals a new card face-up onto the waste pile, giving you a new starting point to build sequences.
- Flip New Waste Card: Drawing from the stock places a new card onto the waste pile, giving you a new reference point to start building sequences.
- Exposing Overlaps: Face-down cards on the peaks flip face-up automatically as soon as all cards overlapping them are cleared. Clearing the overlapping “bridge” cards between pyramids is key to uncovering new paths.

Learn Winning StrategiesWinning Strategies for Four Peaks Solitaire
Since Four Peaks has more cards on the board than standard TriPeaks, your choices are even more critical. Apply these expert strategies to succeed:
- Focus on Overlap Cards First: The cards at the base of the peaks that overlap two pyramids are your highest priority targets. Clearing them unblocks cards in two pyramids simultaneously, giving you more options.
- Plan Ahead for Long Chains: Take a moment to analyse the board before clicking. Map out paths that clear multiple cards in a row (e.g. 5 → 6 → 7 → 8 → 7 → 6) to keep your combos going and conserve stock cards.
- Conserve the Stock Pile: Avoid drawing from the stock pile if there are any valid moves remaining on the peaks, even if they seem minor. Having a healthy stock pile in the late game is essential for clearing the top peaks.
